Drugs List
A drug may be classified by the chemical type of the active ingredient or by the way it is used to treat a particular condition. Each drug can be classified into one or more drug classes.
Serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonists block the vomiting reflex by inhibiting 5-HT3 receptors in the vomiting center, the chemoreceptor trigger zone and in the small intestine.
5-HT3 receptor antagonists are used to treat nausea and vomiting triggered by cytotoxic drugs.

Aminosalicylates are anti-inflammatory agents used to treat inflammatory bowel disease and some forms of arthritis. They work by inhibiting the production of cyclo-oxygenase and prostaglandin, thromboxane synthetase, platelet activating factor synthetase, and interleukin-1 by macrophages so reduces the acute inflammatory response in inflammatory bowel disease.
Production of immunoglobulin by plasma cells is also decreased.
Aminosalicylates are used to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis and Crohn's disease.

5-Alpha-reductase inhibitors block the action of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, which has greater affinity for androgen receptors. The activity of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors results in increased levels of testosterone and decreased levels of dihydrotestosterone.
5-Alpha-reductase inhibitors are used to treat baldness, prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer.
