What is Grifulvin V (griseofulvin)?

Griseofulvin is an antifungal antibiotic that fights infections caused by fungus.

Griseofulvin is used to treat infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, and fungal infections of the scalp, fingernails, or toenails.

What is the most important information I should know about Grifulvin V (griseofulvin)?

You should not use griseofulvin if you are allergic to it, or if you have liver failure, porphyria, or if you are pregnant.

Before you take griseofulvin, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, heart disease, lupus, or an allergy to penicillin.

Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Griseofulvin can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors. Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of griseofulvin. Take this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Griseofulvin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.

DESCRIPTION:


Gentamicin sulfate is a water soluble antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group.

Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution is a sterile, aqueous solution buffered with dibasic sodium phosphate and monobasic sodium phosphate to approximately pH 7 (pH range 6.5 - 7.5) for ophthalmic use.  Each mL contains gentamicin sulfate, USP (equivalent to 3 mg gentamicin base), sodium chloride and benzalkonium chloride (0.1 mg) as a preservative.

Gentamicin is obtained from cultures of Micromonospora purpurea.  It is a mixture of the sulfate salts of gentamicin C1, C2 and C1A.  All three components appear to have similar antimicrobial activities.  Gentamicin sulfate occurs as a white powder and is soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol.  The structure is as follows:



CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY:

Microbiology:  Gentamicin sulfate is active in vitro against many strains of the following microorganisms:

Gentamicin Sulfate Cream USP, 0.1% is a wide spectrum antibiotic preparation for topical administration. Ganciclovir is an antiviral medicine that is used in an implant that is inserted into the eye during surgery. The ganciclovir implant is used to treat a serious condition called cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in persons who have acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Ganciclovir will not cure this eye infection, but it may help to keep the symptoms from becoming worse.

After your eye has used up all the medicine in the implant (generally within 5 to 8 months), the implant is removed by surgery and, at the same time, another implant can be inserted.

The surgery, the implant containing ganciclovir, or the medicine itself may cause some serious side effects, including detachment of the retina, formation of a cataract, and eye infections. Before you receive this implant, you and your doctor should talk about the good ganciclovir and surgery will do as well as the risks involved.

What is the most important information I should know about Geneye Extra (tetrahydrozoline ophthalmic)?

Do not use tetrahydrozoline ophthalmic without medical advice if you have glaucoma. Do not use this medication while wearing contact lenses. Tetrahydrozoline ophthalmic may contain a preservative that can discolor soft contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using tetrahydrozoline ophthalmic before putting your contact lenses in. Do not allow the tip of the dropper to touch any surface, including your eyes or hands. If the dropper becomes contaminated it could cause an infection in your eye, which can lead to vision loss or serious damage to the eye. Human papillomavirus (HPV) recombinant quadrivalent vaccine is an active immunizing agent used to prevent infection caused by human papillomavirus (types 6, 11, 16, and 18). It works by causing your body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against the virus.

HPV infection is usually a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and is easily spread by having sex with an infected person. This vaccine helps prevent anal, cervical, vulvar, or vaginal cancer; genital warts; and abnormal or precancerous diseases of the anus, cervix, vagina, and vulva in girls and women 9 to 26 years of age. Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)

First-line treatment of newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) CML in adult and pediatric patients who are in the chronic phase of the disease (designated an orphan drug by FDA for this use);1 4 18 follow-up is limited.1

Second-line treatment of Ph+ CML in adults who are in blast crisis, in the accelerated phase, or in the chronic phase of the disease after failure of interferon alfa therapy (designated an orphan drug by FDA for this use).1 4 10

Second-line treatment of pediatric patients with Ph+ chronic phase CML whose disease has recurred after stem cell transplantation or who are resistant to interferon alfa therapy.1

Efficacy in pediatric patients determined based on overall hematologic and/or cytogenetic response rates; actual clinical benefits (e.g., decrease in disease-related symptoms, increase in survival) not adequately studied.1

Galantamine is used for:

Treating mild to moderate dementia (eg, impairment of memory or judgement, abstract thinking, changes in personality) in patients with Alzheimer disease.

Galantamine is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing the amount of a certain substance (acetylcholine) in the brain, which may help reduce symptoms of dementia in patients with Alzheimer disease.

Do NOT use Galantamine if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Galantamine
  • you have severely decreased liver or kidney function

What is Gel-Kam Dental Therapy Pak (fluoride topical)?

Fluoride is a substance that strengthens tooth enamel. This helps to prevent dental cavities.

Fluoride topical is used as a medication to prevent tooth decay in patients that have a low level of fluoride topical in their drinking water. Fluoride topical is also used to prevent tooth decay in patients who undergo radiation of the head and/or neck, which may cause dryness of the mouth and an increased incidence of tooth decay.

Fluoride may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Gel-Kam Dental Therapy Pak (fluoride topical)?

Fluoride topical should not be used if the level of fluoride in the drinking water is greater than 0.7 parts per million (ppm).

Preventing and treating portal-systemic encephalopathy. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Generlac Solution is a colonic acidifier. It works by reducing blood ammonia levels, which reduces the degree of encephalopathy.

Gonal-f Powder is a human follicle-stimulating hormone. It is used to treat infertility in women by stimulating the ovaries to produce eggs.It is used to treat male infertility by increasing sperm count. Gonal-f Powder is usually given with other medicines.

Do NOT use Gonal-f Powder if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Gonal-f Powder
  • you are allergic to sucrose, sodium phosphate, or benzyl alcohol
  • you have uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal problems
  • you have pituitary tumor or other brain lesion or tumor
